“Yesterday, I got a great chance to witness the faithful work of the South Fort Myers Food Pantry from two perspectives.
On Sunday, just before the service began, a member spoke to me thanking me for promoting our church’s support of the food pantry.   He suffered an injury to his foot last fall which has compounded his finding work in recent months.   Being able to get food from the food pantry for some time has been a real blessing to him.   He ended his affirmation of the food pantry noting that he needed a ride there on Monday.
As it worked out, our snowbird members have been bringing items in each week as they empty out their pantries and head north and we had several carts full at the church, so I was planning to bring them over on Monday.   I told him I’d come get him after dropping the food items off which I did.
When I picked him up, he could not stop talking about what a blessing the food pantry has been for him.  We arrived and got in line about 9:40
I’ve never been there to see the mechanics of the food distribution and after seeing this, I am so impressed.  I was amazed at how quickly and how smoothly everything went.   I should say how things flowed.   It was great to see in action.
The SFMFP is richly blessed by a crew of such faithful volunteers.  I think the one thing that stood out the most to me was a quality among all the volunteers we had any interaction with and that is “respect.”   Every person we had any contact with treated us with great respect.  I was just a driver on Monday, but I suspect for many, who find themselves in need of the help the food pantry offers, this is a humbling time.  But the volunteers at the food pantry treated everyone with such genuine respect, a gift that I have to believe communicates much about everyone’s commitment to the mission here.
With snowbird season ending, I know there will be some extra challenges in the days ahead.   Know that I will do my best to encourage a generous response to the SFMFP in the days ahead.
Blessings and all good wishes
